What
are my options?
You must contact a private practitioner to complete a Specified
Persons Adoption, International Adoption or InterProvincial
Adoption.
The advantages of
this process are:
- Shorter
wait time to have the adoption study completed.
- Shorter
wait time for a child to be proposed to a family after they have an approved
adoption homestudy.
The disadvantages
are:
- Families
are required to pay for the adoption home study (approx. $1500) and the
total cost of an international adoption can range from $18,000 - $ 35,000.
To complete an
Agency Adoption, you must contact the
agency in your community.
The advantages of
this process are:
- Once
approved, you provide a
home to a child presently in care in
the province of Nova Scotia.
- Agency
adoptions generally cost less than other types of adoptions.
The disadvantages
are:
- Long
wait times to have a home study completed and very few young children
available for adoption.
