Adoption Options

There are various adoption options open to individuals and couples living in Nova Scotia. Adoption is the responsibility of the provincial government and each province in Canada sets its own rules and regulations.

Basically there are four types of adoptions in Nova Scotia:

In all but agency adoptions, the applicant must contract with a private social work practitioner, licensed by the Department of Community Services to complete an adoption

SPECIFIED PERSONS ADOPTION (formerly known as a private adoption)

AGENCY ADOPTION

INTERPROVINCIAL ADOPTION

INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION

The first step in Nova Scotia to successfully adopting a child is to have an adoption home study completed.

In all but agency adoptions, the applicant must contract with a private social work practitioner, licensed by the Department of Community Services to complete an adoption home study.
