There are various adoption
options open to individuals and couples living in Nova Scotia. Adoption is the
responsibility of the provincial government and each province in Canada sets its
own rules and regulations.
Basically there are four
types of adoptions in Nova Scotia:
In all but agency
adoptions, the applicant must contract with a private social work practitioner,
licensed by the Department of Community Services to complete an adoption
SPECIFIED PERSONS ADOPTION (formerly
known as a private adoption)
AGENCY ADOPTION
INTERPROVINCIAL ADOPTION
INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION
The first step in Nova
Scotia to successfully adopting a child is to have an adoption home study
completed.
